Tour de Brookline

Move over Lance, there are two new powerhouses on the cycling circuit: Tess and Sarah, also known as the Pink Poser and Blue Bell (the names of our bikes), respectively.

Saturday I biked around town and capped off the ride with a well-deserved ice cream cone from JP Licks. As I left JP's and walked Blue Bell home, a man stopped and gave me this flyer advertising a bike parade down Beacon Street:

BIKE PARADE?!?!? Without hesitation I accepted the invitation! Luckily Tess was free for the event and, wow, we could not have had more fun. The event started from Armory Park in Brookline and headed up Beacon Street to Coolidge Corner, turned back down Beacon to Audubon Circle and then back to Armory Park.

Beacon Street was shut down temporarily as the peloton passed through town and we had police escorts the entire way. It was so fun to be in the middle of the road and not worry about a car clipping us and to also feel like we were part of something bigger (don't laugh, it's true!). The volunteers and police did a great job. I wish that more people would bike! I thoroughly enjoyed ringing my bell in chorus with all the other cyclists. On top of all of that, we were each given a blue balloon to tie to our bikes...it was quite a festive occasion! And of course after all the hard peddling we rewarded ourselves with a frozen tasty treat. That's how we roll.

I hope there are more bike parades in town, they rock! For more information on Brookline Bikes visit this link. Happy riding!

This really was such a great time- I wish there was a bike parade every weekend! It was too hard sharing the road with cars after it ended...
